Post-Case Questions

Paramedic:

26-year-old female was discovered w/ sudden change in mental status.  Patient has been consuming alcohol with friends.
They noted that she had begun to act strangely, becoming uncommunicative and incontinent, and thought that she might have had a brief seizure. They called 911.  When we (EMS) arrived, the patient was awake but uncommunicative and unable to follow commands. The glucose level in a finger-stick blood sample was normal. An intravenous catheter was placed.

Question to think about:  What are your thoughts on an early diagnosis?  What differentials are you thinking about?
